Ray says that a collection shouldn't be more that 11, just under the dozen . . . not a baker's dozen either, which is 13. Culling is the art that all collectors must fine-tune at some stage, he quips. There are few elevens of ours up here.
The piece of furniture I've bodgeed up goes under the hammer in London tomorrow 22nd November 2011:
Christies Sale 1305 Lot 59.
AN ITALIAN DOUBLE SIDED BURR WALNUT VENEERED BOOKCASE
CIRCA 1940. With rounded top corners, spherical supports on shaped plank base
71 in. (182.3 cm.) high; 47 in. (120.7 cm.) wide; 11 in. (30 cm.) deep
My favourite 11.
