Found in the drawers of ivory and bone objects, overlooked while sorting ephemeral hand pieces

These were a gift from a man I so admired - Habeb Esah.
He was the grandfather of the owner of Philips Antiques, Colaba Harbour, Bombay
(now Mumbai) India.
While in India buying antiques for almost 10 months in 1971, I think I looked in every cabinet, turned over every nook and cranny of the large shop, visited his go-down and the many room-sized safes on the premises. I got to know him and his stock, intimately.
I was 22 at the time and I have to say that he not only gave me a hand on the ground there, he gave me these ivory hands as a farewell gift.
