My 'Essex crystal' ring in the Urban_Archaeology collection

Barbara just posted on Facebook the Essex crystal painted dog button she is interested in . . . my detailed research says that the clear English crystal found at Essex was all taken out by the mid 1700's. I guess Essex crystal has been taken on by the trade as a broad category description? I love this painted piece, our one in the collection is a genuine Essex piece as it has the internally carved crest of the •sixth son of the Burgess family c1680. I'll include a shot of the piece and the page from 'Crests' - I. P. Elven published in c1815. Their family motto is "Patience makes burdens lighter" • the fleur-de-lis denotes the 6th son.
