Four fashion crosses

Amongst the swag of x25 colonial cabinet cards I scored at Peter Homes' shed up on the old fruit road just outside Stanthorpe, Granite Belt is this standing portrait.  The photographer is an important late 19th century artisan, Charles Maribol of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The crossed shoulder belts are supporting what equipment?

Contemporary European designers have brought back the strap this summer . . . I like it!

. . . and an O and an X on a Hackett Jacket posted by a tumblr dude I follow.
